All gender bathroom, Assistance animals welcome, Low sensory / relaxed, Open captioned, Seating availableCapiz, the shell of the Placuna Placenta mollusc, has shaped the material language of traditional Filipino architecture and decorative arts for centuries. The flat, iridescent, and translucent properties of the shell have predominantly been used as alternatives to glass, from windows to lanterns and chandeliers. The mollusc abundantly grows within the muddy and brackish waters of the archipelago. Readily harvested, the use of capiz shells forms an important cultural asset for the Filipino people. Explore new interpretations of this material through a series of hanging installations and object designs at Inarc Architects’ studio.
Capiz celebrates the uniqueness of capiz shells and draws on its rich history and future as a natural resource.
