In this open studio, Betty showcases her international video artworks and samples of her working process. She’ll display the tools central to her practice and will engage with visitors, welcoming them into the life of a studio artist.

Enter through the Veg-Out Community Gardens main gate on Chaucer Street, St Kilda (opposite Woolworths car park): Walk straight down the main path, past the chickens on the right, to the end of the gardens. Enter Studio 1 through the open door on the left (opposite the aviaries).

Betty Sargeant

Dr Betty Sargeant is an award-winning, internationally recognised media artist from Melbourne (Naarm/Birrarung-ga). Betty uses art and technology to address the leading questions and concerns of our times. Her video art, immersive art and public art are illuminated as she works with the medium of light. Sargeant’s installations have enjoyed extensive exhibition both at home and abroad, including commissioned exhibitions for National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Karachi Biennale in Pakistan, and the Asia Culture Centre in South Korea. She is the recipient of the Good Design Award and received a Premier’s Design Award in recognition of her progressive creative practice. In 2016, Sargeant was the Melbourne Knowledge Fellow, and in 2016-17 was creator-in-residence at the Asia Culture Centre in South Korea.
