What could an alternative future for your local community look like (and where would you start)?
Join Commoners Press for a workshop based on this provocation. Following a participative printing workshop model, participants are asked to propose counterfactual scenarios for alternative futures of their local community consistent with the MDW themes of energy, ethics and ecology.
Responding to the prompt ‘What could an alternative future for your local community look like (and where would you start)?’, the generated responses are typeset with movable type by participants and are contrasted with a visual element to complete a double-spread page of the octavo booklet.
The workshop will allow participants to typeset their own words ready to be printed on one of the Commoners Press letterpress machines as octavo booklets. Octavo booklets with participants’ responses will be exhibited, and Commoners Press will host a roundtable event discussing the contributions, printing and creative communities at a later date.
Following the workshop Commoners Press will print approximately 30 copies of each booklet at their press at Coburg Studios.
