With 23 million inhabitants, Mexico City ranks among the five biggest metropolises in the world but the city faces major problems: increasing heat, water shortages, serious air pollution, earthquakes and the social consequences of decades of neoliberal policy. As the city becomes more urbanised, initiatives to improve the urban environment are needed. It is in this political and cultural melting pot that the filmmakers search for promising architectural projects. They uncover an optimistic and forward-thinking city, innovating in public spaces, social housing, upcycling, and productive spaces. This is Mexico City.

Mexity is directed by Kate Kliwadenko and Mario Novas.

This film is part of the Melbourne Design Week Film Festival, which explores the impact of architecture and design through the moving image and its power to innovate and affect change; while shaping communities, cities and the environment. The Melbourne Design Week Film Festival is curated by Spiro Economopoulos. It is presented as part of Melbourne Design Week in association with Lido and Classic cinemas.
