In an era where many of us are transitioning to smaller, more compact homes, how can pet owners create a dedicated sanctuary for their pets while still making the most of available space? Is it possible to conceptualise pet housing that seamlessly combines aesthetics, versatility, and affordability?

Nearly two-thirds of Australians share their homes with beloved pets. In the City of Melbourne alone, there are approximately 5,400 registered dogs and 4,800 cats, marking a notable surge of nearly 50 percent since 2018.

With this exhibition, Never Too Small explores the world of multifunctional pet furniture tailored for compact living spaces. Furniture that not only serves as a pet house or bed but that also doubles as versatile pieces like storage units, extra seating, shelves, or planters. What becomes of pet dwellings when our animal friends move on? Can smart design prolong the life of a breed (insert pun here) of furniture that is so often single-use?

NTS, in collaboration with 11 designers from around the world, will each design a piece of multifunctional pet furniture from a single piece of plywood. The designs will all be templated and cut out using CNC Machinery, a design process dedicated to democratising good designs and making them accessible to anyone in the world.

This event is possible due to the generosity of its material sponsor Plyco, CNC Sponsor Like Butter, paint sponsor Dulux and opening night drinks sponsor Stomping Ground. In support of The Logs Dogs Home.
