Melbourne’s public architecture is in constant negotiation between the inherited fabric of a city and its value, and the demands of contemporary society.
Join the Australian Institute of Architects’ Emerging Architects and Graduate Network (EmAGN) for an informative and critical walking tour through one of Melbourne’s most important publicly accessible precincts: the Queen Victoria Market and surrounds. Hear from architects and designers that have helped to shape the future of this precinct. An introductory talk will frame the walking tour before embarking on a targeted tour of completed and future projects around the QVM precinct. The event will visit the recently completed narrm ngarrgu Library with architects from Six Degrees, hear from architects NH Architecture about their refurbishment works and future vision, and be guided by representatives from the City of Melbourne’s QVM Precinct Renewal department.
This walking tour showcases exemplary architectural works that successfully balance complex ingredients to produce a variety of public experiences that are both shared and individual. Each example visited investigates how architecture, through built form and through shared experience, define our cities and enable our collective right to the city.

Mastura Mokhtar, Associate, Six Degrees
Mastura Mokhtar is an architect and has worked in Malaysia and Australia on projects ranging from bespoke residential dwellings to large community buildings. As an Associate and project lead at Six Degrees, Mastura has a keen interest in the construction side of projects and brings her technical knowledge to materialise concept designs into reality. She recently completed the Munro Site project as part of the redevelopment of Queen Victoria Market.
Tiffany Tan, Principal, NH Architecture
Tiffany Tan is a Principal at NH Architecture and design advocate for honest architecture that eschews unnecessary embellishments. Her approach to shaping diverse and inclusive neighbourhoods is rooted in a profound commitment to engaging deeply, fostering broad perspectives, rehabilitating and respecting Country and ultimately, instilling delight within the community through thoughtful design.

Grace McKellar is Senior Associate at NH Architecture with significant experience delivering and coordinating public projects whilst advocating for thoughtful design in the civic realm. Greg is an Experienced Director with a demonstrated history in the development and implementation of significant infrastructure works, including iconic facilities to large scale open space projects.
Danielle Jewson, Design Manager and Principal Strategic Designer at City of Melbourne
Danielle Jewson is an urban designer, landscape architect and planner with experience delivering projects across urban and regional contexts. She is currently working in City Design at the City of Melbourne. As a designer in the public sector, her work largely focuses on shaping public spaces from strategy through to implementation via interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.
