Accessible bathroom, Seating available, Wheelchair accessibleHow can we reimagine our cities as more-than-human habitats? What if a building’s carbon heritage had just as much importance as its cultural heritage? How can we increase the capacity of what is already built rather than simply building more?
This event presents a unique opportunity to bring together Melbourne’s emerging design talent to tackle real-world challenges that face their city, and consider the need for adaptive re-use and retrofit of our existing buildings, material circularity, and the enrichment of urban spaces.
Open to 8 teams of up to 5 designers, groups will competitively tackle a design problem centred around the creative adaptation of a key nominated Melbourne site to unlock its capacity for a broad range of uses now and into the future. Over 3 hours, each group will identify an issue they are trying to solve on the designated site, establish a conceptual response, and document that concept for presentation.
The specific site and problem brief will be supplied to participants on the morning of the event, and each group will receive guidance from BVN, KTA and Breathe facilitators throughout the session. Judging and award presentation to follow a short lunch break.
Further event details to be released in April 2024.
Retrofitting our Cities | Design Sprint Competition is an initiative hosted by BVN, KTA and Breathe, and counterpart to the Retrofitting our Cities | Panel Event hosted on the same site the following week.
