Accessible bathroom, All gender bathroom, Assistance animals welcome, Low sensory / relaxed, Online, Seating available, Wheelchair accessibleThe Space Between Us is an exhibition that combines the collectible design, sculpture and wall art of Dutch duo Marie Bernard. They draw on the notion of ecology as the totality – or pattern – of relations between organisms (people) and their environments. Working across the entire gallery, Marie Bernard create a 3-dimensional environment where viewers translate the concept of the void as a relational portal for connection. Through this, Marie Bernard examine the interplay between negative and positive space, and the relationship between what is and isn’t seen.
The abstracted designs are inspired by the vernacular architecture of Nièvre in central France, in particular, the exaggerated use of masonry to frame doorways. They employ this reference to the portal to emphasise global connections between people and their environment. The work of Marie Bernard suggests a shift in our focus away from the tangible differences toward the intangible qualities of our shared human experience. They demonstrate the universality of design as a tool to enable connection.
With an opening night celebration and an industry talk, OTOMYS seeks to empower local collectors to better understand the importance of design as a critical communication tool that can enhance your home and your relationship to the spaces that surround you.

Marie Bernard is a collaboration between Rotterdam-based designer Masja van Deursen and artist Serge Game that started in 2017. Based on their separate professional experiences they investigate their shared passion for the tactile use of colour and materials. Their approach is very intuitive and allows for both abstract as well as more figurative results.
